The Arab League should admit that it is facing difficulties in protecting the Syrian people in that manner (sending Arab observers). The Arab League - as an organisation that the Syrians will depend on in the future - should ask the Security Council to cooperate with it to find the proper tools to protect the Syrian people because it has been obvious after the visit of the observers that the killing has not stopped, the arrests did not stop and cities are still under siege." 5. But right now I think we are all waiting to hear what it is that the Arab League will be saying after their meeting on Sunday and what the interim report is from the monitors. Because the Arab League as I have said before has taken on an incredible important responsibility, and we want to defer right now to that meeting on Sunday, and let the Arabs have their own discussions first." 8. We didn't discuss it here but I did have the opportunity to discuss to talk with His Excellency the Foreign Minister of Egypt for example, about the question of NGOs because.....the issue of the NGOs I think has been distorted by the media a bit in both of our countries. There is a very exciting transition underway in Egypt that's been going on throughout 2011 when the Egyptian people went out onto the streets, demanded some basic rights and dignity, to have a say in how they are governed, to be able to play a role in how Egypt is governed in the future." 10. Exterior of Arab League headquarters, tilt down STORYLINE Members of one of Syria's largest opposition groups met with the Secretary General of the Arab League in Cairo on Thursday, to discuss the ongoing violence in Syria, despite the presence of a 100-strong team of Arab league observers. Syrian opposition leader, Waleed al-Bunni, held talks with Arab League Secretary General, Nabil Elaraby, and called for the Arab League to ask for cooperation from the UN Security Council to help stop the bloodshed. Syrian activists are accusing President Bashar Assad's regime of misleading the team, who are monitoring the government's compliance with a plan to end the regime's 9-month-old crackdown on dissent. But it has acknowledged that its plan has failed to stop violence.
