Founded in the late 1980s as a cover band, Threshold quickly developed their own style. They straddle the line between classic British prog rock and American-style progressive metal. In 2025, Threshold performed at the Rock Hard Festival in Gelsenkirchen, where Rockpalast recorded their concert. 💡 You can find the entire concert here: https://1.ard.de/Threshold_2025 🤘 The “Best Of Metal” playlist is available here: • 🤘 Metal-Highlights The two guitarists Nick Midson and Karl Groom founded Threshold in 1988 in Surrey, England, near London. They played with various lineups and initially covered songs by bands such as Testament and Ratt until they found and refined their own progressive sound. Singer Damian Wilson joined the band, and eventually a solid lineup emerged, with which the band recorded their debut album “Wounded Land” in 1993, which was very well received by fans and the music press. Initial tours through Germany and the Benelux countries demonstrate that the band also excels live. At this time, the first lineup changes occur. With new vocalist Glynn Morgan and new drummer Jay Micchie, Threshold embark on the tour for their second album, Psychedelicatessen, and tour with Dream Theater and Psychotic Waltz. After the '95 tour, the singer and drummer left the band, but original singer Damian Wilson was back on board – at least for a short time. The frequent singer changes at Threshold may be the reason why the band never made it big. In any case, it's not because of their live performances, as evidenced by the band's legendary 1999 show in Wacken. Nor can it be the albums, as these are always celebrated by critics: five consecutive albums by the band were named “Album of the Month” by Rock Hard magazine. In 2004, Threshold even made it into the top 30 in Germany – which is very unusual for a progressive metal band. Since 2006, Threshold has been signed to the German metal label Nuclear Blast and continues to release albums regularly. Their twelfth album, “Dividing Lines,” was released in 2022. 📸 Thumbnail photos: WDR/Thomas von der Heiden #threshold #rockhardfestival #rockpalast ----- 🎬 More Rockpalast: ► Rockpalast in the ARD media library: https://www.ardmediathek.de/sendung/r...
