This Dr. Pepper Commercial and Promotion features a give away of two 1966 Excaliburs. Donna Loren is featured in the commercial. The Excalibur was designed and built by the famous industrial designer, Brooks Stevens. In 1963 Studebaker who was associated with Stevens sought him out to build a show car for the 1964 Car Show circuit to be featured in the Studebaker display. Brooks Stevens had did a complete make over of the 1964 Standard Studebaker cars. When the car got to it's first show, Studebaker management has misgivings about the car. The plug was pulled and the decision made not to show the car. Steven's himself and his sons decided to move forward with the car and got a small booth at the show and proceeded to show the car themselves. Needless to say, it was a sensation and orders were booked. The car was based on a Studebaker chassis with a Studebaker 289 engine. The production cars used GM engines. Brooks Stevens built hundreds and hundreds of these cars with his sons as part of the business. They were true geniuses. Several people tried to copy their idea with inferior products. Excalibur did go into Bankruptcy in the 1980's. This was a very difficult time for the entire industry in general in the USA wiith all car companies suffering and losing money. During the Carter years, inflation was double digit and this really hurt sales. Donna Loren is an actress and was featured in numerous movies in the 60's including Muscle Beach Party
