Wigmores Waterfall, Rarotonga

If you are driving from Muri Beach, continue past Wigmore’s Superstore and turn right at the dirt road that with the signpost for SPCA. This is the Sheraton Resort site that was abandoned in 1993 when construction was stopped due to a dispute over ownership of the land as well as the construction company being placed into receivership shortly after they broke ground. It has remained derelict since then although there are rumours about it being converted into a shopping mall or apartments in the near future. Wigmore’s Waterfall also known as Papua Waterfall can be found via a dirt road behind the Sheraton site on the south western side of the island. It’s probably best to make your way up the dirt road either on foot or via 4WD. We drove there on our scooter but it was a bit touch and go! If you didn’t want to walk or take your scooter, you could jump on the Raro Safari Tour or the Raro Quad Tour. Both look like fun, although the Raro Quad Tour looks to get very muddy! Don’t forget to check if it is worth visiting the waterfall before you go as in the dry season the government sometimes redirects the water to town supply so it will be less like a waterfall and more of a trickle!
