UN: FARC rebels have handed over 85% of weapons

(30 Mar 2017) Colombia's FARC rebels have handed over approximately 85 percent of their weapons as they demobilise under the provisions of the peace agreement with the government, according to the director of the United Nations peacekeeping mission. Speaking in Bogota, Jean Arnault on Wednesday said he expected some 8,000 weapons to have been collected by the end of this week. Thousands of rebels, traveling from their jungle camps by foot, vehicles or boat, have traveled to more than 26 demobilisation areas to turn over their weapons to United Nations-sponsored monitors. The rebels are expected to have turned in all their arms by June.
