Welcome to all! Our favorite nuclear escapee refits an old steel sailboat, on his quest to escape both nuclear power and the rat race. Russ is a submarine electrician and a naval officer, and a Senior Reactor Operator….but that is all now left behind. With a loosely held project plan, and a smattering of general technical and mechanical aptitudes, and a history of boat ownership and navigation as hobbies, Russ is now working the light-refit of a 13-meter Smelne Veenjekotter located in Scotland, but bound for the tropics. Together we’ll learn about everything from marine heads to diesels, DC and AC power systems, solar and wind power, and everything in between. In this episode, the ship (and my Tiny Home That Moves) is still in dry storage in Inverness, Scotland. One of the major workstreams is intended to accomplish several "hotel" project milestones--in this case, the milestone is "Can Use Toilet with NO Discharge." Other milestones are: Can Take Shower Onboard, and Can Drink the Water. In this video we are demobilizing the marine head and the holding tank, along with all of the pipes/hoses/ and valves. Doing this work also eliminated two hull penetrations, which is ALWAYS a good thing for any boat.
