After at least 50 attempts, here's how I finally destroyed him once and for all. Step 1) Force Pull the Bedlam Smashers down onto the pit. Step 2) Lead them onto the trapdoor, activate it, and jump away to safety. Step 3) Let them wreak havoc. Step 4) Finish him off. Ideally you'll be able to do an aerial attack on him, but in this instance he went into the corner. Enjoy the reward!
