The oldest planet crusher is the USG Ishimura, which operates an illegal mining operation on the planet Aegis VII. The backstory reveals that Aegis VII was once home to a "red marker," a man-made replica of an original alien mass discovered on Earth. Attempts to weaponize and replicate the marker created a virus-like organism that infected corpses, turning them into undead creatures called Necromorphs.
