COLUMBIANA, OHIO — Hundreds of people turned out on Friday to witness a community being restored to joy. That community was represented in a new movie called “An Angelic Christmas” that was filmed in Columbiana in February. The film directed by Josh Menning had its grand premiere at the Vagabond Theater on Main Street Friday evening with the film’s cast, which included lead actors Karen Abercrombie, Elizabeth Howlett and Alicia Fusting. The movie is about a mother and her two daughters who move to a community where everyone has lost their holiday spirit. The daughters, with help from an angel they can see, embark on a mission to sow holiday spirit back into to the town as they work through healing from their own family grief. Abercrombie is from Aliquippa, Pa. and is known for portraying Miss Clara in the award-winning film “War Room” while Howlett’s most recent film credits include a role on season four of the television show “Stranger Things.” Fusting’s other film credits include the drama movie “When We Last Spoke.” “An Angelic Christmas” will be available for streaming exclusively on Pure Flix beginning Nov. 18. “It was an amazing experience to have the film shot here. I think it helped bring the community together. Josh Menning is very talented and when he teamed up with award winning actress and producer Karen Abercrombie it formed an amazing team. Tonight’s red carpet premiere is a very special opportunity for Columbiana and having a sold out show at the Vagabond Theater makes it extra special,” City Manager Lance Willard said. Erich Offenberg of the Columbiana Cultural Collective said it was the very first sold out audience at the Vagabond Theater since the Cultural Collective began operations. “We are committed to bringing the arts back here,” he said. Filming in Columbiana was another experience for Howlett, who is from Kentucky. “We don’t really get much snow in Kentucky and when we were filming it there was so much snow it was unbelievable. It was very fun. I made friends that will last a lifetime,” she said. The snow that fell in the city during filming in February made for a beautiful backdrop for the movie, which centers around the town square. Many other aspects of the city are also featured prominently throughout the movie. “I absolutely and 100 percent have so much love for Columbiana. Everyone in the town is so lovely and so awesome and they all made themselves available to be extras. Everybody just wanted to be a part of it and it was really cool and really fun,” Fusting said. Fusting spent 18 years living and working in Los Angeles before settling back on the east coast and said that there aren’t many places like Columbiana. “The fact that this was a such a welcoming place was hands down amazing. Let’s film more movies in Columbiana,” she said. This article was written by the Salem News - https://www.salemnews.net/news/local-...
