Extended Highlights | F1| Round 3 | Chinese GP | 2013

The 2013 Chinese Grand Prix saw a dominant performance by Fernando Alonso, who secured his first victory of the season for Ferrari. Starting from third on the grid, Alonso quickly moved up and, with a well-executed three-stop strategy, managed his tyres effectively to control the race from the front. Pirelli had predicted a three-stop race as the fastest approach, and Ferrari perfectly capitalized on this. The race wasn't without its incidents and drama. Red Bull's Mark Webber had a nightmare weekend, starting from the back of the grid due to a fuel sample issue in qualifying, then suffering a collision with Jean-Eric Vergne and later a loose wheel which forced him to retire. Mercedes' Nico Rosberg also retired from the race. Kimi Räikkönen in the Lotus finished a solid second, despite carrying a damaged front wing for much of the race, showcasing the car's strong pace. Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes took the final podium spot, just holding off a charging Sebastian Vettel in the Red Bull on the final lap. Vettel had opted for a different strategy, including a late switch to soft tyres, which allowed him to close the gap rapidly but not quite enough to snatch a podium. The Chinese Grand Prix further emphasized the critical role of tyre management and strategic variations in the 2013 season.
