Pan from rubble on street to damaged apartment of Basam Tkruri STORYLINE: French Foreign Minister Dominique de Villepin met Palestinian leaders in Ramallah on Monday, and reiterated France's commitment to help the Palestinians achieve an independent state. De Villepin's meetings included talks with veteran Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat - in spite of Israeli objections - and with new Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Abbas. Both De Villepin and Arafat welcomed the roadmap and urged that it be quickly implemented. The talks come as the Israeli Cabinet accepted the internationally backed "road map" Mideast peace plan but also added conditions, including a halt to Palestinian attacks and renunciation of a demand for the right of all Palestinian refugees and their descendants to return to their original homes in Israel. Following his meetings with Arafat, the French minister met with new Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Abbas. Israel charges that Europe is biased in favour of the Palestinians.
