Video Lecture (5 Part IV): Reactivity of Diisobutylaluminium hydride (DIBAL-H).

This video describes the preparation, bonding, and reactivity of Diisobutylaluminium hydride (DIBAL-H) by β-hydride elimination pathway. I have also discussed the mechanistic details of DIBAL-H and the selectivity towards the reduction of ester or nitrile to aldehyde under low temperature. Finally, I have compared the reactivity of DIBAL-H with LiAlH4 in detail under a tabular form and discussed the pathway for the preparation of deuterium attached aldehyde from the proton attached counterpart to the carbonyl carbon atom.
