Reading 1: Ephesians 2:19-22 In today’s first reading, St. Paul speaks to the unity and belonging we have in Christ. Through Him, we are no longer strangers or outsiders; we have become fellow citizens with all the saints, forming a spiritual household built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus as the cornerstone. As each part of the structure aligns with Him, it grows into a holy temple, a dwelling place for God in the Spirit. This powerful image reminds us that as members of the Church, we are part of a living, growing community, centred on Christ. Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 18 (19) "Their word goes forth through all the earth." This psalm beautifully reflects the universal mission of the apostles, whose message of God’s glory is spread throughout the world. The heavens themselves declare the glory of God, showing how His creation speaks of His majesty. The apostles, like the heavens, are bearers of God’s truth, spreading His word to the furthest reaches of the earth. Gospel: Luke 6:12-19 In the Gospel, we see Jesus spending an entire night in prayer before choosing His twelve apostles, highlighting the importance of discernment and communion with God. Among these chosen were Simon, called the Zealot, and Judas, son of James. This was a significant moment in the establishment of the Church, as Jesus selected those who would carry forward His mission. The passage also describes how people from all over sought out Jesus, seeking to touch Him and be healed. His power to heal and transform lives is a reminder of the same power and mission given to the apostles, and by extension, to the Church. Reflection Today’s celebration of Saints Simon and Jude invites us to reflect on the universal mission of the Church, which is built on the foundation of the apostles. St. Paul’s words in the first reading remind us that we are not alone; we are part of a greater spiritual family, a household of God. The apostles were the first to carry forth this mission, and their words and deeds still echo throughout the world today. Simon and Jude were ordinary men who answered the call of Christ, showing us that God can use each of us, regardless of our backgrounds, to further His kingdom. Their feast day is a call to remember our own mission within the body of Christ. We are called to be living stones, contributing to the growth and strength of the Church. The Gospel reminds us of the importance of prayer in discerning God’s will. Before Jesus made the crucial decision of choosing the twelve apostles, He spent the night in prayer. This is a model for us as we make decisions in our lives, seeking to align our actions with God’s plan. Additionally, the healing power that flowed from Jesus continues through the Church’s ministry today, offering comfort, peace, and transformation to those in need. Saints Simon and Jude were known for spreading the Gospel to regions far from their homeland, reflecting the words of the Responsorial Psalm: “Their word goes forth through all the earth.” This is a reminder that the Church’s mission is universal, reaching out to all people, cultures, and nations. We too are called to be part of this great mission, sharing the light of Christ with those around us, whether near or far. Thank you for joining us today on The Holy Way.
