At a press briefing on Friday, Geneva local time... the WHO chief warned that the virus would continue to evolve. "As we have said, new variants are expected and will continue to be reported. That's what viruses do, they evolve, but we can prevent the emergence of variants by preventing transmission. It's quite simple: more transmission, more variants. Less transmission, less variants." He also said the lack of vaccines in poor countries is making the situation even more dangerous in Africa. Slamming rich nations for vaccine shortages... he said that the global community was failing. "And the difference now is between having a vaccine and not having a vaccine. The difference is between the haves, and the have not. And which is now completely exposing the unfairness of our world, the injustice, the inequality. That's it. Let's face it." Amid resurgence fears... Israel, which has fully vaccinated more than half of its population... has told its citizens that they must wear masks indoors once again. Over in Europe... Germany has banned travel from Portugal and Russia - as both countries are reporting surges in cases of the Delta variant. Starting Tuesday, only citizens and residents of Germany will be allowed to enter the nation from the two countries... after undergoing a two-week quarantine. The country's health minister said the Delta variant would become dominant in Germany over the summer.
