Star Trek: Discovery made it through the Galactic barrier first ?

Screen Rant came out with an article that claims That Kirk and crew never made it through the Galactic barrier ! In fact the author says that it was Discovery that made it through first ! If the author really new the history of Star Trek then they would know that this information is so wrong !
