Reality Of Evacuation Of Indian Students In Coronavirus Pandemic | COVID-19 Outbreak

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, several Indian students stranded in COVID-19 affected countries were evacuated by Indian Government through special flights. Evacuation started from Wuhan, a city in Hubei province of China. Since Wuhan being an epicenter of the COVID-19, the two special flights evacuated 654 passengers that included 647 Indian citizens from Wuhan only. The first batch consisting of 324 Indians was evacuated from Wuhan, China on 1st February, 104 of these were quarantined for monitoring at ITBP Chhawla camp and the rest 220 were housed in the army facility at Manesar. Students and Indian personnel in other parts of China were not evacuated but were taken into care by the Indian government and the Chinese government. Same was the case with other countries where students were evacuated from hard-hit areas only. Rest were taken into care by the Indian government and respective governments. After China, Italy emerged as the worst-hit and which led to the evacuation of Indians stranded there. Evacuation was done from Milan only, being an epicenter of COVID-19 in Italy. India had brought back around 218 people, including 211 Indian students from Milan. Iran being another hard-hit country after China and Italy led to evacuation of students and pilgrims from there. Out of 234, 131 were students and 103 were pilgrims. After the evacuation, all of them were quarantined at Army wellness center in Jaisalmer. Since the imposition of travel restrictions no evacuation has been done from any other country. For the last few weeks students studying abroad and their parents are making continuous requests for evacuation. But the government is giving them all the assurance for their safety. The External Affairs Minister made it clear that the Indian embassy is taking all the steps towards Indian national’s safety stuck in any country. Apart from Indian embassies all around the world , Universities with Indian students are also taking all the steps towards the safety of Indian students.
