Tamil Nadu SIR | Eight unusual patterns in the deleted electors list | Data Point

Over 97 lakh electors have been deleted from the voter lists in Tamil Nadu as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls. In this video, we analyse data from over 75,000 polling stations across Tamil Nadu to identify eight distinct and unusual patterns that define this massive update. The data reveals significant trends in urban centres like Chennai, where nearly 35% of voters in some areas were removed due to absenteeism or shifting. We also explore statistical variations in districts like Tiruppur and Madurai, where death-related deletions occurred at rates significantly higher than the state average. Furthermore, the analysis looks at gender-specific patterns in places like Mayiladuthurai and Tirunelveli, where female deletions disproportionately outpaced male removals. As the electoral roll is finalised over the next two months, a closer examination of the SIR processes and deletions is essential to ensure there have been no arbitrary deletions.
