Searching For Proof (Official Trailer)

Documentary about Big Proof that failed to raise 10k $ on kickstarter in 2017. "Write Brain Studio wants to create a documentary about one of Hip Hop's best kept secrets. Help us tell this story. Searching for Proof: The Story of Deshaun Holton; a feature length Hip Hop documentary from the art collective that brought you The Revolution Televised. In the 1990's, while the city scape of Detroit was beginning to crumble and fade into the mist; there was one powerful entity that build an artistic movement out of the rubble and brought these musicians together every weekend at "The Hip Hop Shop" where they could creatively release their stress from bleak, crumbling metropolis that surrounded them. Born Deshaun Holton; the hip hop community would remember him strictly as Proof. As Eminem's best friend and mentor; he showed him the ropes and got him on his first stage in front of an audience. With J-Dilla; he was the first artist to join a group and rap over his instrumentals. And in the case of Royce Da 5'9" and D12, he lead the way for what would be a turning point in Hip Hop, deep rooted in the classic elements of B-boy culture; DJing, freestyling, and breaking was still an active part of the movement in the Rock City. When General Motors moved it's jobs overseas; an entire population became unemployed and changed the bustling cosmopolis with incredibly eclectic music scene over night. Within a decade, the city would become a shadow of it's former self. By this point, the staple genres of Detroit's heyday were long in the past. There was one shining light that managed to lead all these artists through the darkness and onto the stage where they would launch their careers into some of the most iconic legends in Hip Hop. Eminem, Royce Da 5'9", and J-Dilla have all since sold millions of records and become household names. Of the fallen Hip Hop artists that have defined a generation, Tupac and Notorious BIG (for great reason), largely get a lot of the attention. But Write Brain Studio is interested in the untold story, which we believe is often the most powerful. This documentary isn't just about unraveling the mystique behind Proof, a man who still sits on billboards in Detroit, over a decade after his death. It's not just about a rapper; Proof was an icon, a local legend, a son, a father, and a man who held up a dying city on his back and breathed new life into it; paving the way for artists like Danny Brown and Big Sean. Many hip hop artists that knew him best and his former management team have aligned with us to give us full access, as well as music rights, and the ability to explore any part of Detroit. Upon completion, we plan to enter our film to various independent and major film festival circuits such as Tribeca Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, and Silver Docs. We want to make sure we can can share Proof's story with as many people as possible, and thats why it is so crucial to have your help! By choosing any one of our 8 Rewards, YOU TOO can help bring Proof to the big screen! But it's not just about Proof. As much of a creator as he was, he was also cared about building and giving back to the community. 25% of the proceeds that are donated through Kickstarter will go to getting Flint Michigan clean water. For over three years, the inhabitance of Flint, Michigan; which is a stone's throw from Detroit, have been drinking water infected with lead. We believe Proof would want us to tell his story from the people that knew him best and the people he touched, and use the benefits of it to help give dignity and equality to the people in his community." source: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/... https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...
