DRAMATIC: U.S. Coast Guard Rescues Residents from Historic Washington State Flooding (DEC 2025) U.S. Coast Guard aircrews perform dramatic, life-saving helicopter rescues amidst historic and severe flooding in Western Washington state this week. Following an intense atmospheric river event that caused rivers like the Nooksack and Snohomish to overflow their banks, communities were inundated with up to 15 feet of water, forcing thousands to evacuate. In coordination with local first responders, aircrews from Coast Guard Air Stations Port Angeles, WA, and Astoria, OR, used rescue baskets and swimmers to hoist trapped individuals from rooftops and attics, including four people from a home in Sumas, WA, and two stranded hunters in the remote Suiattle River Valley.
