While Stranger Things Season 5 is often good, some elements of the first half just didn't quite line up. We examine the character choices, inconsistencies, and moments that were so "ludicrously unbelievable" that we couldn't let them slide. Despite having been through so much together, we question why Dustin lied to his friends about getting jumped by the jocks, especially since he wasn't endangering anyone but himself. He adopted a "me against the world" attitude, hellbent on honoring Eddie by wearing his Hellfire Club shirt, which put him at odds with Mike and the others. We also explore how Mike, who knows what it's like to be disbelieved, failed to take Holly's warnings about "Mr. Watset" (Vecna) seriously until his family was attacked. It’s also confusing that Karen and Ted Wheeler remained totally in the dark about the immediate danger and the Upside Down, even though the military had taken over Hawkins and unusual events were rampant. The narrative urgency also seems lacking following the massive Season 4 cliffhanger. Events have settled into a "low simmer," allowing Ted Wheeler time to practice his golf swing before the Demogorgon attacks. Furthermore, after Nancy gave the marching orders to run, El chose to "briskly walk" through the closing gate, similar to how Vecna, in his Henry form, simply power-walks while chasing Max. Finally, we analyze the action sequences that strained credibility, such as the bizarre timing discrepancy where El convinced Hopper to let her infiltrate the base using 7-second intervals, only for the actual interval to be 17 seconds and often inconsistent. We also address the unbelievable display of strength when Mike, Will, and Derek (who is described as like 9-years-old) managed to hold a bathroom door shut against three trained military soldiers.
