Total War: SHOGUN 2 1vs1: Naginata Attendants (Rise of the Samurai) vs Yari Samurai Clan: Kiso Minamoto vs Takeda Battle Difficulty: normal Both units: Rapid Advance used Naginata Attendants are a step above naginata levies, with their better statistics more than making up for their lesser number of men per regiment. They are effective against cavalry provided that they can catch them in the first place, and are effective at fighting infantry that aren't specialized for fighting other infantry. They also have more armor than most other infantry units, allowing them to withstand arrow fire fairly well. Naginata Attendants are some of the only units in Rise of the Samurai that have access to the Rapid Advance ability, allowing them to quickly traverse the battlefield and temporarily eliminate all fatigue. This makes them useful for carrying out flank or rear charges, warding off cavalry, or climbing walls during sieges. Rapid advance is practically the only advantage naginata attendants have over naginata warrior monks, who equal or outclass them statistically in every way and who also have access to the powerful Warcry ability. Naginata attendants can defeat naginata levies in a head on fight, but will suffer heavy losses in return. Training and maintaining them is quite expensive at the beginning of the game. Another disadvantage of this unit is that it is hired in the Koryu barracks, which does not have access to samurai and auxiliary shooters and for its effective functioning it will be necessary to create a temple. The fastest way to gain naginata attendants in the early game is through bribing rebel armies, which often spawn with some of units of them. However, Naginata Attendants do have certain advantages. They are cheaper and easier to produce than warrior monks; mass production can begin early in the campaign. Their combat parameters can be improved by a forge and a training camp. The squad has good armor 4 and Fukuhara Taira their armor reaches 5 which is at the level of samurai. After improving the +3 attack camp and using a forge improved to produce armor +3 attack +3 armor, the Naginata Attendants squad will receive 13 attack and 7 armor (8 armor for Fukuhara Taira). Their rapid advance and high anti-cavalry bonus makes them ideal for charging enemy generals, provided that they don't attract too much arrow fire while they charge. A unit of naginata attendants is sometimes granted at random to the player faction, and it always spawns at the faction capital. Naginata attendants fielded by the Fukuhara Taira have +1 armour, and are 20% cheaper to upkeep. Yari Samurai wield spears, giving them a large bonus against cavalry. This, together with their Rapid Advance ability, allows them to quickly move to parts of the battlefield to kill or at least fend away enemy cavalry. However, the rest of their statistics pale in comparison to Katana Samurai or Naginata Samurai, and Yari Samurai are also vulnerable to missile attacks. Unlike Yari Ashigaru, Yari Samurai cannot form Yari Walls. As yari walls are a powerful tool that greatly increases the damage potential of its users, this puts Yari Samurai at a distinct disadvantage. Yari Ashigaru in yari walls easily defeat yari samurai, yet yari samurai are much more expensive to train and maintain. Provided that yari ashigaru always use yari walls when appropriate, the only clear advantage of yari samurai over their ashigaru counterparts are their better mobility. Most playable factions begin the game with one regiment of yari samurai. As most factions don't have access to cavalry in the early game, these yari samurai can be a substitute for cavalry in the early game thanks to their rapid advance ability: they can use it to run behind enemy units and attack from the rear. When trained by the Date Clan, Yari Samurai have +2 charge bonus. Hattori Yari Samurai have kisho training, allowing them to be placed anywhere on the battlefield except the opponent's deployment zone during the deployment phase of a battle. They can also hide in light scrub. __________________________________________________________________________________________________ Please join me to get access to membership perks: / @totalwar1vs1 My Discord channel: / discord #totalwar1vs1 #totalwar #shogun2 #totalwarbattles
