Checkrein Finger Taping for Pain with Extension

To all those that have suffered finger injuries in BJJ and/or Judo: This video is particularly important, as I see a large number of BJJ and Judo taping videos on youtube and Facebook showing how similar types of taping are used to relieve finger pain and/or increase grip strength. I explain what this finger taping technique actually functions to do and the situations you might use it for. It is not for just any finger pain, and does not give you incredible grip strength. This technique is used for a specific injury type and is designed to prevent re-injury. The Basics: -Anterior capsule damage happens when the finger joint is over stretched (over extended) -This usually presents as pain on the front of the finger joint and pain when stretching the finger into extension (back on itself) -This is not to be confused with tendon damage, as you cannot effectively tape for that type of injury. Tendon damage requires gripping alterations and rehabilitative exercises, such as, range of motion and strength/endurance exercises (video coming soon!) -Ice, compression, and elevation can be used to relieve pain and swelling -More severe joint damage may require immobilization, but more often resolves with rehabilitative exercises, such as, range-of-motion and strength exercises for the finger Thank you for watching!
