Today's modification (not really a modification as much as an add-on) for my Char-Griller Kamado Akorn Grill / Smoker is an expanded metal basket to use on my diffuser rack for high heat searing. In this video, I cooked a couple of ribeye steaks to test and demonstrate this modification. I used a sheet of 12x24" 1/2" x 18g expanded metal from the hardware store to make this add-on. That sheet cost me about ten bux and a few minutes of time with my angle grinder and a cut-off wheel. I didn't mention it in the video, but I also made a charcoal grate add-on out of the same expanded metal to keep small bits of lump charcoal from falling through into the ash pan during a cook.
