3D Capture film set with iPhone | iPad - virtual pre-production in Unreal Engine

I think what makes it most exciting is the connection between film and emotion and emotion and spaces. Being an architect I'm always looking to have the spaces I create evoke emotion. Many times those emotions are not discovered by simple pictures but rather through life. Living out our time within these spaces. We grow, experience relationships. Have arguments and experience joy. These life changing moments can be experienced through film. We can be affected by other peoples stories. Through other peoples lives. We connect with them and identify. This has lead me to my interest in film. Creating spaces for interesting moments to happen. In steps the iPad and its new lidar scanner. How can we use this to capture spaces, sets, scenes. It dawned on me that this tech would be ideal for virtual production and film previsualization. When it comes to film, who wants to waste their talents time clients time and rest of the crew by not being prepared. This allows you to explore all the shots and plan the entire film on location within the real world measurements. What constraints will you have? Where should lighting be. What’s the best camera angle? Lens? Wide narrow etc. when does a lens change make sense. Planning early makes the difference. In this video I test out my theory. Scan a space in under a minute. Bring it into unreal engine and render out animations in real-time. In this video I’m exploring the workflow for a previz virtual production. You could take this technology for what it is at this moment. Accept the flaws and run with it. If you’re looking for final production value we are not there yet. But we will be soon.
