USMC Designated Marksman School -- call out drills

At the beginning of the school each student is given one round and told that at some point during the course (after they have qualified with the rifle) they will be given a target description and greenlighted to take a shot if called upon. Typically, we'd call them out early in the morning after PT, while in the classroom. Or, we'd wait until the end of the day, and then call them out. Always as a team. They went everywhere with a buddy....
