1999 Texas High School 4A D1 State Championship: Texas City vs. Hereford

Despite never attempting a pass against Hereford, the Stingarees slashed and slugged their way to a 27-14 triumph in the Class 4A Division I state championship game at Texas Stadium. Texas City capped a perfect 14-0 run to its second state crown in three years, while the Whitefaces finished the best season in school history at 13-2. Stingaree quarterback Charis Dottin never even hinted at putting the ball in the air on a cool, soggy night in the Metroplex. And he really didn't need to. A Herd defense that had been so stout during its 1999 postseason run simply didn't have any answers for the two-headed Stingaree running game. Tailback Frank Gorom plugged away for 192 yards on 26 carries, including a 70-yard jolt in the third quarter that set up the touchdown that sealed the victory for Texas City.
