Myanmar's state-run broadcaster reports the country's top military commander met senior Russian defense ministry officials on Monday in Russia. Russia's defense ministry on Tuesday released a statement reaffirming that Russia and Myanmar will deepen technological cooperation in military fields. It's the second time that Myanmar has announced a Russian visit by Senior General Min Aung Hlaing since he took power in a February 2021 coup. Myanmar apparently wants to show it has close ties with Russia as the Southeast Asian country has become more isolated from the global community. Myanmar gets many of its weapons from Russia. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited Myanmar earlier this month for the first time since the coup.
