Welcome to the House of Dreams

Artist Stephen Wright has been turning his ordinary terraced house in East Dulwich into a work of art since 1998. He calls it the House of Dreams and thinks of it as a museum which is a diary of his life. He collects and recycles colourful items from his travels around the world and embeds them in the walls to create a highly colourful psychedelic grotto of plastics, glass, broken ceramics and damaged toy dolls amongst lots of other unlikely mementos. During lockdown he’s taken the opportunity to expand upon his work of the last 23 years and of course to document his experience of the pandemic. He says it’s an ongoing project which will never be finished, but will be left to the National Trust upon his death.
