Bobray Bordelon - What's the Big Deal about Big Data?

Big data has gone form the halls of academia and the scientific community to becoming a popular feature in the mainstream press. Big data and what is it used for will be addressed along with its challenges and opportunities for libraries and library & information science programs. Can and will librarians and libraries play a role or be left behind? the occupational outlook will be explored as well as the skills needed to enter this growth field. Bobray Bordelon joined Princeton University as the Economics and Finance Librarian in 1993. In 2004, he added to his duties the role of heading Data and Statistical Services. In 2006, he aded the role of Project Manager for the Cultural Policy and the Arts National Data Archive to his duties and in January 2007 became its director. This Fall, he also joined Rutgers University SCI as a part time lecturer in the MLIS program and is teaching "E-resources for Business and Economics". He is the 2006 recipient of the ALA Business Reference and Services Section (BRASS) Thomson Gale Award for Excellence in Business Librarianship. He is active in ALA, the International for Social Science Information Services & Technology (IASSIST), and the New Jersey State Data Center. he chaired BRASS from 200-2001. he is a frequent speaker at conferences.
