From the 16th century until Poland's final division in 1795, the Castle housed the king's personal offices as well as the royal court's administrative offices. The Royal Castle, which is located near the Old Town's entrance in Castle Square, is home to a substantial collection of European and Polish artwork. Numerous significant events in Polish history took place at the Royal Castle. The Four-Year Parliament created the Constitution of May 3, 1791, the first of its kind in Europe and the second-oldest codified national constitution in the world. After Poland was divided, the building was renovated in a neoclassical style. It served as the seat of the Polish president and head of state during the Second Polish Republic (1918–1939). The structure was completely destroyed during World War II; Luftwaffe fighter planes targeted and set it on fire in September 1939, and the Nazis detonated it during the failed Warsaw Uprising in 1944. The remaining pieces of the wall, the cellars, the nearby Copper-Roof Palace, and the Kubicki Arcades were all listed as historical monuments in 1965. Between 1971 and 1984, it underwent reconstruction, returning to its former appearance from the 17th century. The Old Town and the Royal Castle itself were recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1980. With more than 2.14 million visitors in 2024, it is the second most visited art museum in Poland and the 31st most visited art museum globally. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ To Subscribe Tap Here: https://www.youtube.com/c/H2OChannel?...
