Wim and I were planning to record this piece for a few months, until this last weekend, when we realized that we didn't have any piece for the Monday Premiere. Wim got the idea of recording it on Saturday and I happened to have the score with me. And so here we are, presenting this beautiful piece to you! While we were recording it, we were deeply touched by the emotions and the feelings that this music expresses. The first and the second movement are one of the most delicate and tender pieces of music ever written, where Schubert proves one more time how unique he was in creating beautiful, heartbreaking melodies. Until we got to the final fugue, where he demonstrates to be also a master in the art of counterpoint and of being not simply a "songs composer". The emotional power of this music is so strong that when we were listening to the recording in the car while driving back to the train station, we just sat there quiet. I almost missed my train back to Berlin... This music talks directly to your soul and makes your heart open to the world of the deepest emotions, something that very few composers are able to achieve. We hope you enjoy this recording, as we put the best of us in it, trying to convey this unbelievable musical message to you.
