My Go-To Plywood Edge Hack When I'm painting plywood and not staining my projects, this is my preferred method to finish raw plywood edges. Step 1 Sand the rough edges. Step 2 Fill in the edge with wood filler. Don't over fill, just fill in any gaps or holes, for deep areas, you may need to fill twice. Step 3 Sand with a fine sandpaper like 220 grit. Step 4 Prime the edge 1-2 coats. (Sanding in between coats.) Step 5 Paint your top coat. This is the technique l'm using for my PANTRY built-ins.
