Welcome to the first episode of our up-and-coming talent interview series! Each week the LOVE MUSIC SHELTER channel will bring you talented new performers and their stories of hope and inspiration. We discovered the amazing band The Next Stop performing on the NYC subway. The band consists of Brooklyn native, Edson Sean; Eddie Bellas, formerly homeless and Jelani Williams, who unfortunately is still homeless. Edson Sean’s video for his song “Stupid Me” is currently on VH1 Soul, preparing the public for next thing in Hip-Hop/Soul. He has seamlessly combined old school Hip Hop sensibilities with a classic soulful feel that creates a refreshingly new, yet familiar, sound. In 2009 he was chosen by Jazz at Lincoln Center and the State Department to be an American Music Ambassador, traveling to six West African countries to bridge the cultural gap through music and soft diplomacy. Not only does he sing and write, he also plays several instruments, including piano, drums, guitar and djembe. To date, he has released 2 albums under his previous moniker "Omni Blaize". Jelani means Choosen One and Mighty One in his native Trini and Indian. You could say music has been with him since before he was even born. His flow and mindset originated from his mother, who would tell him stories of when she was pregnant and the only thing that would calm him down was music, he'd settle as soon as she put the radio to her belly. He performed at the Apollo Theater in 2017 and in a lot of Hip Hop competitions and performances at various lounges, placing third in a competition featuring over 40 musicians. He attended ASA for Criminal Justice for a year before deciding to do music full time.
