Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder, Imran Khan, made a video appearance at the Supreme Court of Pakistan, ffrom Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, where he is currently incarcerated. The hearing, led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa and a five-member bench, focused on the government's intra-court appeal challenging the court's decision to nullify amendments to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) law. The proceedings began with Chief Justice Isa summoning Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan and the government's counsel, Makhdoom Ali Khan, to the rostrum. The court also ordered an investigation into the unauthorised leak of an image from Khan's video court appearance, an image that circulated online, in the wake of the decision against live-streaming the proceedings. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, during a day-long visit to Azad Jammu and Kashmir, chaired a cabinet meeting with AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq. Sharif announced an aid package for the martyrs of recent violent incidents in the region and discussed the ongoing situation in Kashmir with local and Hurriyat leaders, asserting his role in international advocacy for Kashmir. Moreover, the Islamabad High Court responded to inquiries regarding the dual nationality of judges, spurred by a letter from Senator Faisal Vawda. The court emphasised that dual nationality does not disqualify a judge under the Pakistani Constitution, an assertion that could influence future judicial appointments and reflects ongoing concerns about the influence of non-resident nationals in government roles. Meanwhile, Pakistan grapples with extreme weather, with the Met Office forecasting "very hot" conditions across central and southern regions, including Karachi, which is experiencing high temperatures and humidity. Such extreme weather conditions are likely to affect daily life and could exacerbate socio-economic issues in affected areas. In economic news, the government has slashed petrol and diesel prices, responding to global oil price reductions. This decision is expected to provide some relief to consumers amid economic challenges. However, Pakistan's stock market experienced a slight dip after reaching record highs, reflecting the volatile nature of financial markets and the broader economic environment influenced by government policies on privatisation and foreign investment. The international scene is also lively, with the Pakistan cricket team heading to England for a T20I series, France declaring a state of emergency in New Caledonia following deadly riots, and South Africa seeking judicial intervention at the International Court of Justice regarding Israel's operations in Gaza. These events highlight Pakistan's diverse engagements and challenges on both domestic and international fronts, painting a complex picture of its current socio-political and environmental landscape. #latestnews #internationalnews #ImranKhan #PakistanSupremeCourt #NABLaw #JusticeForKhan #PrimeMinisterShehbazSharif #AJKCabinet #KashmirSolidarity #PakistanPolitics #Judges'DualNationalityDebate #IHC #JudicialReform #DualNationality #PakistaniLaw #WeatherForecastinPakistan #PakistanWeather #Heatwave #KarachiHeat #ClimateAction #ClimateActionPK #FuelPriceCut #EconomicRelief Keep up with the day's top news stories with The Express Tribune's YouTube Channel.
