Ukraine, Russia agree deal to resume Ukraine grain exports from Black Sea ports

우크라 곡물, 흑해 수출길 열렸다…세계 식량난 '숨통' Ukraine and Russia signed separate agreements with Turkiye and the UN. This clears the way for exporting grain and fertilizer that's desperately needed around the world. Kim Dami has the details. Ukraine and Russia agreed to resume vital grain exports from Black Sea ports, a major diplomatic breakthrough aimed at easing a global food crisis sparked by the war. Ukrainian Infrastructure minister and Russian defense minister secured a deal brokered by the UN and T rkiye in Istanbul on Friday. This is the first negotiation reached in five months since the war broke out. "And it will help stabilize global food prices, which were already at record levels even before the war a true nightmare for developing countries." The blockade of Ukraine's grain has left developing countries on the edge of bankruptcy and caused a global food crisis, with wheat-based products like bread becoming more expensive. The latest deal, which took two months to reach, will enable Ukraine to export 22 million tons of grain and other agricultural products that have been stuck in Black Sea ports since February due to the crisis. The UN hopes a monthly export of five million tons of grain will leave the ports each month. That's comparable to pre-war levels. A coordination and monitoring center will be established in Istanbul, staffed by UN, Turkish, Russian, and Ukrainian officials so that no weapons are shipped to Ukraine. The deal will be effective for 120 days. It can be renewed if both sides agree.
