Various of meeting between Olmert and Steinmeier and their delegations ++mute++ STORYLINE German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier met with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert in Jerusalem on Monday, as part of a four day visit to the Middle East. The tour follows Steinmeier's participation in the Iraqi security conference in Sharm el-Sheik. Later on Monday, Steinmeier met with Israel foreign minister Tzipi Livni at the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem. As part of his tour, Steinmeier visited Ramallah in the West Bank on Saturday, speaking with Palestinian officials including Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. During the visit Palestinian Foreign Minister Ziad Abu Amr and Finance Minister Salam Fayyad urged visiting Steinmeier to work towards lifting sanctions against their region. Most countries maintain the boycott because Hamas refuses to renounce violence and recognise Israel.
