This is an UP Date on the Harvey Wells TBS-50C Senior bandmaster 1950's vintage with 807 final . This transmitter was used several times a week by me for the last few years on 6 meters only for AM phone on 50.4 with no problems . Two days ago I tried it on 80 meters AM phone for the first time with crystal control and the 807 final was unstable and the rig would not transmit . The repair diagnosis was long and time consuming I was about to give up and set it on the shelf for awhile . As I was doing this I thought about the Heathkit HW-101 and how it had parasitic suppressors on the final tubes . Thinking why does the Harvey Wells NOT have a parasitic suppressor ? Digging in the junk box I found a 47 ohm 2 watt resistor and was about to make a suppressor BUT looking at the Final tube I saw the wire going to the plate cap this wire is about 3 inches overall with 1/2 inch each end wrapped and soldered So two inches of wire was there . Solder tacking on the resistor on to each end of the final plate cap wire and testing the transmitter for the umpteenth time I was AMAZED ! The instability of the 807 was gone ! tuning was smooth and output was a steady 20 watts carrier with nice upwards modulation . I wrapped the resistor wires around at each end and soldered them properly and the Harvey Wells TBS-50 is working fine business . The suppressor may cause the transmitter to NOT work on two meters I never have used it on two meters and do not plan to ever use it on two meters It does work fine on all bands including 6 meters with the suppressor resistor on there so I am very pleased .
