The E-way Bill (Electronic Way Bill) is a document required for the movement of goods under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime in India. It is an electronically generated document that must be generated on the GST Common Portal for the transportation of goods valued at over Rs. 50,000. Key points about E-way Bill: Applicability: The E-way Bill is mandatory for the interstate and intrastate movement of goods, where the value of the consignment exceeds Rs. 50,000. It applies to both goods transported by road and through other modes of transportation like rail, air, and ship. Generation Process: Registered persons or transporters can generate the E-way Bill online through the official GST portal (https://ewaybillgst.gov.in/). The E-way Bill can also be generated and managed through various modes such as web, SMS, Android app, and API integration. Information Required: The E-way Bill includes details such as the GSTIN of the recipient, the place of delivery, the invoice or challan number, the value of goods, HSN code, and transportation details. Validity Period: The validity of the E-way Bill depends on the distance to be traveled by the goods. For a distance less than 100 km, the validity is one day, and for every additional 100 km or part thereof, an additional day is added. Cancellation and Updating: E-way Bills can be canceled within 24 hours of generation. If the goods are not transported within the validity period or if there is any mistake, the E-way Bill can be updated. Verification: Tax officers can intercept and verify the E-way Bill during transit to ensure compliance with GST regulations. Penalties for Non-Compliance: Non-compliance with E-way Bill regulations may result in penalties and seizure of goods. The E-way Bill system aims to bring transparency and efficiency to the transportation of goods, enabling easier monitoring and regulation of movement under the GST framework.
