Nirmala Sitharaman became the sixth Finance Minister to present the budget five times in a row today. This was Modi government’s last full budget ahead of 2024 General Elections. The budget focussed on seven priorities: inclusive development, reaching the last mile, infra and investment, unleashing the potential, green growth, youth power and financial sector. The highlight however, were the five major announcements on personal income tax and change in slabs under the new tax regime. Watch Hindustan Times’ Senior Editor Aditi Prasad decode the budget with Editor-In-Chief Sukumar Ranganathan and Data and Political Economy Editor Roshan Kishore.
