The statement furthered that the dec-eased after swallowing the package became unconscious and was taken to the Sonotech Clinic for medical attention but was pronounced d-ead on arrival. “Police Statements taken from witnesses at the scene of the incident, including some private security guards at the mall, and the ar.resting P.olice officer revealed that the dec.eased had resisted arr•est by the Po•lice Officer who was being assisted by the private security guards. “The narrative of the events, as gathered by the po•lice, indicated that during the course of the arr•est, the dece•ased pulled out a substance from his bag, which he quickly swallowed before anyone could stop him. He became unconscious shortly afterwards and was taken to the Sonotech clinic for medical attention but was pronounced de•ad on arrival,” part of the statement read. It added that per a post-mor•tem examination conducted on the dec•eased, it was confirmed that the cause of de•ath was Asphyxiation and Obstruction of the airway by a foreign body. “On 7th February 2023, a post-mo•rtem examination was conducted on the dece•ased’s body in the presence of Alfred Boafo, father of the accused, Dr Rosana Polinicio Segborwortso Pathologist of GA East Municipal hospital representing the accused, Mr Francis Xavier Sosu lawyer for the dec•eased, Louis Melabah Edeafor, uncle of the dec•eased, Isaac Anim Anno, father of the dece•ased and Anna Cobbina sister of the dec•eased. “The pathologist gave the verbal cause of de•ath as Asphyxiation and Obstruction of the airway by a foreign body. He also retrieved from the throat of the deceased, eight (8) zipped bags containing dry leaves suspected to be narc•otic d•rugs tied in a piece of black polythene. “The retrieved, suspected na•rcotic substances tested positive for can•nabis when submitted for for•ensic examination, in the presence of all the interested parties,” he said. Meanwhile, This development has led some residents of Mpataba to protest on the main road near a stream (deity) to invoke curses on persons involved in the killing of their kinsman. They called on the town gods to deal with the alleged perpetrators and their families.
