After we use the first two sections to learn to write equations in slope-intercept and point-slope form, we put them to use to write equations of parallel and perpendicular lines (4.3), create and analyze lines of fit (4.4 - 4.5), and write equations for arithmetic sequences (4.6). It is the same underlying model with far different concepts, but the chapter promised writing linear equations and that is exactly what we did.
