It was released in August 19, 2012 and is the third game in the New Super Mario Bros. series. It is a direct sequel to New Super Mario Bros. and a indirect follow-up to New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Just like Super Mario 3D Land, the game is partly based off of Super Mario Bros. 3, as it features Raccoon Mario, the P-Meter and the Koopalings. The game's main focus is on coins with one of the objectives is to collect one million coins. New Super Mario Bros. 2 is also the first Mario game to be available both on a physical release and a digital version that can be purchased through the Nintendo eShop.
