Video preparado por AA Car Videos Chile, para recordar a este modelo de la casa del león. El 306 nace como sustituto del 309, y que fue lanzado en marzo de 1993 como un hatchback de 3 y 5 puertas. Ya en Abril de 1994 se presenta su version Cabriolet y en Octubre de 1994 en su version Sedan. Mecánicamente, el 306 es prácticamente idéntico al Citroën ZX , que se lanzó dos años antes que el 306: ambos autos usan la misma estructura de piso y núcleo. El 306, con su atractivo estilo Pininfarina derivado del Peugeot 205 , fue un automóvil más exitoso que su gemelo. Los motores disponibles en gasolina son 1,1, 1,4, 1,6, 1,8 y 2,0 litros. En el lado diesel , hay tres versiones atmosféricas (1769 y 1 905 cm3 XUD, luego 1868 DW8), así como un motor diesel turboalimentado con 1.9 litros de cilindrada. Los motores de gasolina (excepto algunas versiones raras de 1993 con un carburador) fueron catalizados por inyección desde el principio, mientras que los catalizadores aparecieron en las versiones diesel durante la renovación de abril de 1997. A mediados de 1999 el 306 nuevamente recibe un ligero rediseño denominada "fase 3". Entre lo que destacan mejoras y modificaciones exteriores, incluyendo lentes transparentes en los faros delanteros, faros antiniebla redondos y transparentes, codificación completa del color del acabado exterior, eliminación de la tira de plástico negro en el borde inferior del portón trasero, vidrio entre otros. En las variantes diésel, el antiguo motor XUD fue sustituido por el más moderno HDi, que contaba con inyección common rail. A partir de 2001 algunas versiones del 306 se fueron retirando del mercado como la Hatchback que fue reemplazada por el 307, para asi ya en 2002 la gama completa del 306 se deja de producir como tal.
