Excel Analysis ToolPak Replacement: XLMiner is Better - Episode 2409

Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Walkthrough of a better alternative to the Analysis ToolPak in Excel Welcome to episode 2409 of the MrExcel Podcast, where we dive into the world of Excel and all its amazing features. In today's episode, we will be discussing an incredible replacement for the Analysis ToolPak that will blow your mind. I am Bill Jelen, and I am excited to share this discovery with you. The story of this discovery is quite interesting, with many connections and a bit of luck. It all started when someone reported a bug with our XL2BB add-in, which allows users to post Excel workbooks on the MrExcel message board. Upon further investigation, we found that the bug was caused by Application.GoTo not working in VBA. This bug was also reported by some Insiders Beta users, and we discovered that Microsoft was aware of it and working on a fix. But that's not all, as a friend of mine was going through George Mount's new book, "Advancing Into Analytics," and found that the Analysis ToolPak Descriptive Statistics tool was not working. After some testing, we realized that it was also affected by the Application.GoTo bug. This led me to reach out to Dan Fylstra, a spreadsheet legend and author of Solver, to see if the Analysis ToolPak was also using this function. And that's when we discovered the XLMiner Analysis ToolPak. XLMiner is a free, cleaner, and more efficient version of the Analysis ToolPak, created by Dan Fylstra and his team at Frontline Solvers. It offers the same 19 tools as the old ToolPak, but with a modern interface and the ability to work with Excel and Excel Online. To access it, simply go to the Insert tab, click on Get Addons, and search for XLMiner. Once installed, you can find the 19 tools on the right-hand side, just like the old ToolPak. And the best part? It actually works! So, for those of you who have been struggling with the old Analysis ToolPak, whether it's because it doesn't work in Excel Online or is affected by the Application.GoTo bug, or if you're just looking for a better version, XLMiner is the solution you've been waiting for. And while you're at it, make sure to check out George Mount's book, "Advancing Into Analytics - from Excel to Python And R," for more amazing Excel tips and tricks.
