Jess visited in college and had been waited over 20 years to show the rest of the family places in Colorado Springs like Garden of the Gods! Our crazy day of adventuring started at 4:45am as we headed to Garden of the Gods for sunrise and donuts! The red rock formations were incredible as they were lit up by the rising sun. We watched the sunrise and then headed into the center of the rock formations and found a cool spot to enjoy our donuts, coffee and hot chocolate! We had a timed entry ticket to drive up to Pike’s Peak, so we had to book it out of Garden of the Gods to head up the mountain. The ticket allows you to take your vehicle all the way to the top instead of parking 2/3rds of the way up the mountain and taking the shuttle. We cheated a little by driving up instead of hiking, but we will be sharing a good mountian hike soon! Once at the top, we had to try the World Famous High Altitude Donuts and check out the Visitor Center. Be sure to bring warm clothing as the temperature change was intense and drink lots of water and take your time walking around, because the air is very thin at over 14,000 feet!
