TAM Airlines Flight 3054 Crash (see description for more details on this incident)

On July 17, 2007, TAM Airlines Flight 3054 was operating a scheduled domestic flight from Porto Alegre to São Paulo, Brazil. The aircraft, an Airbus A320, attempted to land at Congonhas Airport during rainy conditions on one of the airport’s shorter runways. After touchdown, the aircraft was unable to decelerate properly on the wet surface. It overran the end of Runway 35L, crossed a busy roadway, and collided with a TAM Express cargo warehouse located next to a fuel station. The impact caused a large explosion and fire. All 187 passengers and crew members on board were killed, along with 12 people on the ground. Dozens of others inside the warehouse were injured. The accident became the deadliest aviation disaster in Brazilian history and the worst air accident ever recorded in South America at the time. The crash prompted widespread scrutiny of operations at Congonhas Airport, including runway length, surface conditions, and aircraft landing procedures. Brazil’s Aeronautical Accidents Investigation and Prevention Center conducted a detailed investigation, releasing its final report in 2009. The investigation concluded that improper thrust lever configuration during landing, combined with wet runway conditions, played a critical role in the accident. Following the tragedy, multiple safety reforms were introduced, including runway grooving improvements, operational changes, and stricter landing performance requirements to prevent similar runway overrun accidents. ‼️Copyright / Fair Use Notice This video is presented for educational and informational purposes only.
