Anti-OSCE Protest: Firecrackers, smoke bombs launched near OSCE summit dominated by Ukraine

Police and anti-OSCE protesters have clashed in the Swiss city of Basel, at the end of a summit dominated by the Kremlin's actions in Ukraine. Demonstrators threw projectiles and firecrackers at riot police, who responded by firing smoke bombs. The Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe has struggled to fulfill its mandate of preventing conflict and establishing resolution in Ukraine. UN figures estimate over 4,000 combatants and civilians have been killed in fighting between Ukrainian troops and militants, despite the deployment of hundreds of observers and numerous attempts to broker a lasting ceasefire.
