On this segment of The Henry Ford's Innovation Nation, Mo Rocca speaks with two scientists who discovered an improved version of a plastic-eating bacteria. This enzyme is called Petase and it feeds off of P.E.T. plastics which are most commonly found in single-use plastic drink bottles, carpeting, and textile materials. It's estimated that it would take around 450 years for P.E.T plastics to break down, but with the Petase enzyme, it would only take weeks to months.
