Toho studios tried to make a rematch film with Godzilla and King Kong during the Heisei era in the 1990's. It would have seen King Kong get a cyborg makeover, one that would lead to the creation of Mecha King Ghidorah from Godzilla VS. King Ghidorah. Why wasn't this film made?
