Midgard returns, but it's now a frozen, desolate landscape due to Fimbulwinter—a relentless three-year winter that began at the end of the previous game. Svartalfheim offers the same level of depth and interactivity that Midgard had in the previous game, and returning realms such as Alfheim, Helheim, and Niflheim have been expanded with richer content and character-driven storytelling. Set three years after the events of God of War (2018), the story follows Kratos and his now-teenage son Atreus as they venture across the nine realms to uncover Atreus’ true identity as Loki and search for a way to stop the oncoming apocalypse—Ragnarök.
